A delicious tomato and onion gravy, traditionally served with mealie pap.
- 2 onions, chopped finely
- 1 tbsp crushed garlic
- 4 tbsp olive oil
- 800 g can whole peeled tomatoes in juice, drained
- 70 g tomato paste
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 2 cups water
- sea salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Fry the onions and garlic in olive oil until soft and golden. Add the tomatoes, tomato paste and sugar and simmer for 10 minutes.
Add the water and simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring often. Serve with grilled or braaied sausage.
